Are neon signs expensive to run

Believe it or not, you’re better off leaving your neon sign plugged in at all times, unless you’re cleaning it or having it repaired. This is because turning the neon sign off and on all the time puts more wear and tear on your neon sign transformer than simply leaving it on does.

Compared to other signage options, neon signs are actually very affordable. They are the 5th most abundant chemical in the world and this allows them to be continuously produced.

The average neon sign only consumes about . 8 amps ( 8 tenths of an amp). This equates to about 96 watts (about equal to a single light bulb). The average cost to operate your neon sign is only about 20 cents per day (if you operate it 24 hours per day).

The components used to make a neon sign are quite costly. As a result, neon sign makers pass these costs on to buyers at a markup which results in higher prices. Furthermore, the cost of the components is not limited to just buying them, handling them may equally be expensive.

Myth 1: Neon Signs Contain Harmful Chemicals and Toxic Gasses. The biggest myth surrounding neon signage is that these types of signs often contain chemicals and gasses that are physically toxic to the human body. In reality, this is not actually the case.

Typically, neon signs will last around 10 years if they are kept in good condition and made with durable and high-quality neon tubes. However, several components make up a neon sign, and each can suffer damage.

LED Neon VS Traditional lighting

A typical LED neon light’s power consumption is 150 watts. Comparatively speaking, the power consumption is 610 watts and 400 watts for fluorescent and neon glass, respectively. That alone is evidence of a lower power draw for the same type of lighting effect.

A neon light contains a tiny amount of neon gas under low pressure. Electricity provides energy to strip electrons away from neon atoms, ionizing them. Ions are attracted to terminals of the lamp, completing the electric circuit. Light is produced when neon atoms gain enough energy to become excited.

Neon can last decades. In practical terms the transformer will last from 5 – 7 years if on 24 hours a day. Some will fail earlier, and many will easily last 10-15 years. The power supply can be replaced once it no longer works and your sign will be good to go again.

The signs can be a little harsh and bright up close, however, so in order to get just the right ambiance around the basement pool table, a dimmable neon sign may be in order. It can be done.

LEDs consume less energy, they cost less money and offered more variations. Businesses took no time switching allegiances to these types of signs. This caused a decline in the demand for neon signs, as well as, the replacement of neon signs from major commercial hubs.

Neon does not explode randomly. Neon and Argon Gas are both Inert Gases- they are not themselves poisonous.

Neon signs run at 15,000 volts

Neon signs also operate at extremely hot temperatures, which means they can be a major fire hazard. Never allow your neon sign near water. If less than 3 metres off the ground, ensure it is protected and covered. Never operate a neon sign close to flammable items.

Neon Signs Market Analysis and Insights:

The Neon Signs market revenue was Million USD in 2016, grew to Million USD in 2020, and will reach Million USD in 2026, with a CAGR of during 2020-2026.

No other material has such an attention-grabbing quality; neon has been used in signs for over 100 years, yet it still has such a fresh, modern appearance. As neon continues to grow again, more and more people are looking for something unique and individual to their tastes and needs.

The amount of gas in the tube also factors into the exact color the light produces. The gases used to make bright, multicolored neon signage commonly include mercury, argon, and helium.
