Alexander Hart Greenwich has been a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly since the 2012 by-election, representing the Sydney seat.
Clover Moore, his predecessor, endorsed him as an independent candidate. Greenwich is remarkable for being the Legislative Assembly’s only openly gay male Member.
Greenwich married his long-term partner, Victor Hoeld, in Argentina in 2012, where same-sex marriage was already legal, in a watershed moment for the LGBT community.
His marriage made news and attracted attention to Australia’s marriage equality debate.
Greenwich’s journey from leading Gay activist to NSW Legislative Assembly member serves as a powerful reminder of the value of political representation.
His victory was a watershed moment for the LGBT community, and he remains a powerful advocate for equality and social justice in Australia.
