Alan Schaaf is the founder of the online image hosting service, Imgur, and he has an estimated net worth of $10 million. In 2009, while he was a junior at Ohio State University, he developed the popular image-hosting site Imgur.com. The image hosting and entertainment website has quickly gained popularity among social news sites such as Reddit and Digg because of its ease of use and lack of advertisements. It has grown to as much as 150 million users per month. As of April 2013, it is ranked the 90th by Alexa. The highest ranking is 73rd.
Imgur.com is owned by Imgur LLC and is based in San Francisco. It was launched on February 23, 2009 and does not require registration or membership. It is described by Schaaf as “an image hosting service that doesn’t suck” because it was created for its usability, easiest and faster image sharing, which is the common problem encountered in similar services.
On January 9, 2010, Alan Schaaf announced the creation of Imgur accounts. This enables the users to create custom image galleries and manage their images. Users can also sign in using their Twitter, Google, Facebook, and Yahoo accounts.
Since Schaff graduated, he works full time for himself. While the service was being developed, he was a full time student and worked part time at a local radio station.
