Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary Parents: Meet Adel Abdel Bari & Ragaa Bary
Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary, the former British rapper and suspected Islamist militant, has gained notoriety for his alleged involvement with the terrorist group ISIS. As the investigations into his activities and background continue, it becomes essential to shed light on his family and upbringing.
Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary was born on June 16, 1991, in Maida Vale, West London, United Kingdom. His parents, Adel Abdel Bari and Ragaa Bary, played a significant role in his life. His father, Adel Abdel Bari, faced a tumultuous past involving suspected radical Islamist connections. He was arrested when Abdel-Majed was just six years old, and in Egypt, he reportedly endured torture. Following his release, he sought political asylum in the United Kingdom, where he was joined by his wife and family, including Abdel-Majed.
However, despite his father’s history, Abdel-Majed pursued a music career and gained some recognition as a rapper. Performing under the stage names Lyricist Jinn and L Jinny, he released several tracks that reflected on his life growing up in London, addressing themes such as drug use, violence, and life on a council estate. He was part of a rap group called “The Black Triangle,” and some of his songs were played on BBC Radio 1.
His life took a drastic turn in 2013 when he announced his departure from the music scene and proclaimed his devotion to Islam. Radicalized by Muslim groups associated with preacher Anjem Choudary in England, Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary joined the jihadist opposition forces in Syria, fighting against the Syrian government.
During his time with ISIS, he made headlines for posting a photograph of himself holding a severed head, allegedly taken in Raqqa, Syria. This act further fueled the suspicion that he might be the infamous “Jihadi John,” the executioner in the video of James Foley’s beheading. However, it was later confirmed that “Jihadi John” was actually Mohammed Emwazi.
Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary’s journey as a suspected Islamist militant came to an end when he was arrested in Almería, Spain, in April 2020, along with two other terrorists. He faced trial in Madrid on charges related to ISIS membership and fundraising for terrorist activities through online scams. During the trial, he denied all charges.
Sadly, on July 26, 2023, Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary was found dead in his cell at Puerto III in El Puerto de Santa María, Spain, where he had been imprisoned pending the verdict of his trial. The cause of his death is under investigation.
As authorities and the public continue to unravel the complexities of his life and actions, the influence of his parents and the circumstances that led him down the path of extremism remain crucial aspects of understanding his story.
