Newsreader and journalist Nas Campanella of the ABC welcomed a son, Lachlan, into the world with her husband, Thomas Oriti.

Nas Campanella, a fiercely independent journalist, and her husband Tom always intended to have kids. Their wish has now been fulfilled. Her husband, Thomas Oriti, is also a journalist for ABC’s national current affairs programs AM, PM, and The World Today.

When Nas Campanella, now 33, was six months old, she went blind. However, she conquered every obstacle in her path to create a loving family of three.

ABC Journalist Nas Campanella Baby Lachlan

Recently, ABC journalist Nas Campanella welcomed her baby Lachlan into the world.

The powerful journalist and her husband Thomas are overjoyed to be parents because that is something they have always wanted to do.

ABC’s energetic disability news reporter must be engaged in the customary mum dance as a new mother holding baby Lachlan in her arms and rocking him gently while whispering in his ears, hoping that sleep will follow.

As a new father, Thomas Orit must view his adorable baby with delight and awe.

Describing baby Lachlan, she says, “everyone says he looks like Tom. He’s all dad, they say. For me, I see, incredibly chubby cheeks, very chunky gorgeous thighs, a beautiful tiny little nose and plenty of hair”.

She had portrayed a blind pregnant woman in a one-off acting performance in Channel 10’s Offring two years before their wedding. It inspired her to consider her own motherhood goals for the first time.

She and Tom had considered their child’s likelihood of inheriting her conditions as they had been talking about having children. Although Tom never had a problem with it.

As with everything else in her life, Nas thus prepared extensively for being pregnant.

She understood that because of her neurological condition, she needed to make sure her body was prepared to become pregnant and subsequently care for her body. To ensure she had the strength in her arms and legs to get off the couch while holding a baby, she worked with an exercise physiologist for two years before becoming pregnant.

Parenthood has been exciting and emotional for Nas and Tom over the past three and a half months, and they are well aware that theirs is a world with unique obstacles. Their time to learn is now, just like every parent.

Tom, Campanella’s husband, recalled their first night at home with Lachlan was terrifying because they were left alone with the young child, whom they had to keep happy and healthy. He did, however, clarify that they were not stressed-out parents.

Nas uses her other senses to navigate parenthood due to her limitations, especially when playing.

She uses many mats with patterns and textures to hear him moving around and to know where he is. She frequently surrounds him with toys to hear him move because the couple has a lot of soft toys that generate a lot of noise.

Lachlan is making excellent progress and is a very happy baby. Tom and Nas are waiting and watching to see if he might develop her condition.
