51 people confirmed dead after boat capsizes in northern Bangladesh

Dhaka, Sep 27 (IANS) No less than 51 individuals have died after a boat upset in a northern Bangladesh locale, a senior cop said.

S.M. Sirajul Huda, Administrator of Panchagarh Locale Police, let Xinhua know that 26 additional bodies were recovered from the Karatoya stream in Bangladesh’s northern Panchagarh region, 468 km away from the capital Dhaka, on Monday.

As per the official, the jam-pressed boat, conveying approximately 100 travelers, sank on Sunday evening, Xinhua news organization announced.

One more 26 bodies were recuperated on Monday, bringing the complete loss of life to 51 from 25, the official told Xinhua over telephone on Monday night.

“The boat upset and sank due to over-burdening,” said the official.

Television pictures from the scene showed many bodies in white sacks which were recovered from the waterway on Monday.

The boat has previously been hauled to the stream bank, where many were sitting tight for the bodies of their friends and family to be recovered from the water.

The cop added that heros had been neutralizing serious areas of strength for an and uneven waterway waters, adding that a pursuit was in progress as a few travelers were as yet accepted to miss.
