Who Is Kevin McGarry? Here Are Details of His Family, Relationship History and More

About three decades ago, there was a tiny number of Canadian entertainers who were internationally famous for their art. But over the last few years, this has changed greatly as Canadians like Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling, Seth Rogen, and Ellen Page have changed the norm of things. Another Canadian trying to break such boundary and carve a name for himself in Hollywood is Kevin McGarry. Having kicked off his career in 2006, he has been on the rise ever since, starring in several hit movies and TV shows. He is most revered for his role as Dr. Timothy Hud in the 2015 American-Canadian mystery drama, Open Heart.

The Childhood of Kevin McGarry

The Canadian budding actor was born on March 19, 1985, in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada. Although he doesn’t like sharing deep details about his family, we know at least that he comes from a close-knit family that resides in Canada and that his family is very supportive of his career.

He once posted a picture of his infancy days which had his fans surprised to know that he has always had his ‘sleepy’ eyes. Kevin had a carefree childhood like most people without ever wanting to worry about what the future held for him. But this would only hold until 9th grade when he took a much-needed break from his math class to cool off.

Somewhat accidentally, he wandered into a 12th-grade theater class. According to the actor, that became a turning point in his choice of a career path. Watching the students dramatize, trying their best to play a certain role much different from how they appeared was enough conviction for him to decide to delve into acting. From that day, Kevin McGarry would feature in several drama productions of his school. This continued until the end of his high school days. For him then, he had decided what he wanted to do with his life: that is, acting.

How He Became a Professional Actor

As the years went by, his love for acting kept growing even stronger to the point that he opted to study Creative Writing at George Brown College, Toronto. Upon securing his College degree in Creative Writing, he attended Fanshawe College in London, where he learned more about the intricacies of Theatre Arts. In a bid to further increase his knowledge in theatre arts, he attended the Pro Actors Lab located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada before moving to Vancouver where he finalized his studies at Lyric.

In 2006, McGarry made his acting debut on the TBS series Love Bites but his role was quite minimal to make any serious impact in his career or minds of fans. Determined to make it as an actor, he decided to try making a name for himself on the stage before venturing to the big screens. As a result of this decision, he spent several years performing in various theatres across Canada. After four years of absence from the big screens, Kevin McGarry made his return by starring in a horror movie titled Saw 3D: The Final Chapter in which he played the character of Charlie.

The movie which became an instant hit, grossing approximately $136 million in the box office, was all McGarry needed to make his long-sought flight to stardom. Later that year, he starred as Jonah on the comedy-drama Turn the Beat Around. Ever since then, he has starred in several movies and TV series such as A Song For Christmas, Signed, Sealed, Delivered: From Paris with Love, Being Erica, Murdoch Mysteries, and most notably, Open Heart, where he played the character of Dr. Timothy Hud.

Kevin McGary added yet another feather to his cap when he joined the cast of the Canadian-American TV drama series When Calls the Heart from its Season 6 in February 2019. He portrays the role of Nathan Grant in the Hallmark series. Truth be told, he can’t be categorized as an A-list actor yet, but considering his age, he has a lot of time to earn that title.

Exploring The Family and Love Life of Kevin McGarry

Being a private person, there are a lot of questions that have been left without answers about his personal life, the biggest being his family, and his marital status. For a long time, lots of speculations have been made by bloggers, fans, and onlookers about his family. The reason for this is not far-fetched: the actor hardly talks about his family or share any post that concerns them online.

But he sometimes posts pictures that suggest a good bond with close family members, although he doesn’t give any detail as to the names of the people in the photos or who they are to him. On one occasion, he posted a picture of himself standing alongside several others with a caption that simply said “family”. However, in classic McGarry style, he didn’t reveal the individual names of anyone in the picture.

Moving on to his marital status, let’s start by stating that there isn’t any indication that Kevin McGarry has ever been married before. Nevertheless, in 2016, he revealed he was in a romantic relationship with a Canadian actress named Alex Herzog. There is no information as to how they met or when they started dating officially, but if the amount of time they spend together is anything to go by, it won’t be long before wedding bells start ringing.

While we have not heard about Kevin and his girlfriend having any baby, one of Kevin’s recent Instagram posts is a photo of a pair of twins. This may make some people wonder if Kevin McGary had a pair of twins with Herzog but chose to keep the detail to himself. That’s unlikely the case.
